Multi-zone Find Day

On Saturday, the 29th of March, the two zones of our mission, Stuttgart and Freiburg, hosted a large finding day in Stuttgart. I travelled with the elders and Derick on the train to Stuttgart to this big event. It was a lot of fun and a great experience in missionary work. Our goal was to find one hundred new contacts, or potential investigators.

We met at a church in Stuttgart and had a devotional. It was good to see a lot of missionaries we have worked with in the past. Elder Pope is going home soon (actually already home by now), and it was good to see him again. Derick was also very happy to see some of the former missionaries that served in Ravensburg. After the meeting, we all walked down to Königstrasse to the Schlosspark where we sang some hymns in the public area. The weather was wonderful and there were a lot of people in the park. After singing, we had a "flash-mob" experience where we all sat down and for about 10 or 20 minutes and read the Book of Mormon silently to ourselves. Our group included missionaries in both zones as well as the young single adults of the Stuttgart area and some other members.
After the "read-a-thon" we broke up into groups and started talking with people in various areas of the city center. We headed out to a different part of town, Marienplatz. We talked with some people, but had limited success.

Along the way, on the train, we went through the city of Ulm. In Ulm is the largest (tallest) church building in the world. It is 530 feet tall. This is the best shot I could get while we were traveling on the train through the city.

After the contacting work, we all got together again and sang some more songs and had a prayer, all in the public area of the park. It was a wonderful experience being all together. We expect that the effect of this will continue for some time as people remember the gathering and the spirit they felt.

Sister B. was home and attended the Relief Society activity for the day and picked us up from the train station very late that night.

The train ride home was not pleasant. It happened that there was a huge soccer game that day, Dortmund against Stuttgart and the trains were extra full with soccer fans, many of whom were drinking or drunk. It was a long trip home with a lot of delays. However, the great experience in Stuttgart was well worth the effort.
