Sorø, Denmark, the land of Ane Pedersen Andersen Lovell and her family

My great-great-grandmother, Ane Pedersen Andersen Lovell was born in Denmark and after her marriage, she and her husband joined the church and emigrated to Utah. In our recent travels in Denmark in the end of September 2016, we visited places in county Sorø where Ane was born and lived.

Sorø is the region on the west-central part of the island of Sjælland. (Copenhagen is on the east end of the island.) The city of Sorø is a beautiful city on a large lake.

We started our visit to the area and stayed in a hotel in Sorø city.

In Sorø is a very old institution called Sorø Akademie. Probate (will) records for many of our ancestors on this line can be found in the Sorø Akademie records.

A large city just to the west of the city of Sorø is called Slagelse. Ane, in her history, says that she is from Slagelse.

This is the church in Slagelse

West of Slagelse is the town of Hejninge. The Pind ancestors of Ane are from the Hejninge area.

North of Slagelse is the village of Årslev or Aarslev. Ane was born in Årslev. Also listed in the area are Sonderup and Ørslev.

There is not much to see in Årslev. It is a very small area now.

Sønderup is a little bigger.

You can see that the landscape is fairly flat. We saw a lot of power windmills in the area.

Some family activity is recorded to have taken place in nearly Ørslev as well. The place name of Ørslev is fairly common in Denmark. This is one of several in the region.

Ane was married in Taarnborg, west of this area near the seacoast. The family soon after joining the church they emigrated to Utah.

A history of her early life can be found at http://emjacobson.buchananspot.com/images/families/APAnderson/AnePedersenHIST.html

We enjoyed seeing the places where she and her family lived.
