Oktoberkonferenz

We really enjoyed watching General Conference last weekend. Since we are 8 hours ahead of Utah, the Saturday morning session arrives here at 6 PM. What we do is schedule the showing of previous sessions in a way that we can get the most available at a time. Normally, the members are expected to travel to a church building where they receive satellite broadcasts, which in our case would be in Dornbirn, Austria, about an hour away. I learned last year that we can actually get the Priesthood session over the Internet, so we have been showing the sessions in our own facility, using my laptop computer, getting the signal over WiFi. As you can expect, that adds a little chance of problems, but so far it worked out well.

Last Saturday we scheduled showing the Sisters' session at 4 PM and the live Saturday Morning session at 6 PM. I was able to download the sister meeting so I could just play that back without worrying about the internet dependability. Of course, we do it in German. The following live session worked well.

On Sunday, we scheduled the Priesthood session to be shown at Noon and the other session after that. That way, the sisters did not need to come until later. I was a bit concerned when I could not find the Priesthood session on the LDS website (in German). I kept looking and praying that it would work and at 11:57 AM finally was able to find it in a little less-direct web link, so we were able to show it.

We then saw the Saturday afternoon session followed by a pot-luck dinner and then the Music nd Spoken Word and the Sunday Morning session.

I was very impressed, especially by the talks by President Uchtdorf and the talk by Elder Christofferson. It seems that we are being counseled to be strong in our faith, and to especially show love and caring for all people, and be tolerant to all, regardless of their spiritual level. I am enjoying being able to go back and watch again.

We know and love being able to have prophets in the church. We should really focus on listening to them and applying the teachings in our lives - especially through the conference messages.
